| VIGNETTE in six syllable lines. (Trimeter) A vignette is merely a moment in time recapped in poetic form. In this case, the description comes through as short story prose. The counting of syllables per line gives this moment a balance of meter. Vignettes can be written in any rhyme scheme, traditional form or in free verse. GRANDMA'S FLOWER GARDEN Smearing paint with her thumb Grandma smudged her latest - fantastic colored swirls I think it's a flower Maybe the whole garden but I'm afraid to ask so I smile big and say that her use of colors is.. .simply amazing - because it is. Truly. My Grandma tips her head contemplating her work and I wonder if she sees the garden I do or maybe something else altogether. She laughs and I ask, "What's funny?" She says, "Ha! I never realized it before." I tip my head sideways Squinting, but I can't guess what she's talking about, She says, "If you don't squint the colors still blind you." |
