CONFOUND CONTRAPTION
He saw the car, for rich old gents. Next step, convince our Mom of need.
He took it slow, just dropped brief hints "Imagine riding at that
speed!" New car tirade, next verse, same song. "Now trips to town take
all day long!" With gritted teeth, she said okay, He jumped at chance,
without delay.
The day Dad bought his Model T, he drove it slow, around the Square, to
brag a bit and let folks see, his new black Ford, replaced his mare. He
sat up straight, all this for show, then pulled the wheel and hollered
whoa. The car went on, through drugstore wall. We laughed so hard, we
thought we'd fall.

PAY BACK TIME
The bullies at my daughter's school
walk tall, chests out; their whole facade
intimidates, intends to rule.
They formed a gang, to run roughshod.
Each year, new quests, smart kids, the best.
At end of school all take the test.
Some make the grade, for by God's grace,
then venture out, hard life to face.
The Bible says, "Reap what we sow." Mean deeds, their high ...
incredible! When they were young, they did not know, they thought they
were invincible. Do you suppose when old and gray, infirmities will come
their way? The nurse's aides in their rest homes, may choose to just
ignore their moans.

Yvonne Byrd taught a poetry class I took via E-mail. She said: be in a
telling mode
the whole idea is to show or paint pictures * scare me, make me cringe,
invoke action, emotion
no 'ing' words
do not use: what... unless asking a question
have, had, is, are, was, were, could, should, would, that
